Field watches are a subcategory of watches that always interests me more and more with each new stunning addition. This is also a category that has risen in popularity over the past few years, with simpler and more elegant sports watches being back in style. Brands like Tudor have capitalized, with the new Ranger in the dune colorway, as well as Longines with the updated Spirit line. Due to the simple nature of the pieces, we see microbrands throwing their names in the pile as well. Vario, Formex, Zelos, and Farer come to mind as some of the better-known ones.

Recently, a micro brand by the name of Astor+Banks released what is undoubtedly my favorite field watch. The Terra Scout is an incredibly unique take on the field watch format, keeping the classic simplicity while spicing it up with a central date wheel. This gives the watch, in my opinion, more symmetry than a traditional date window would.

They started this hopefully fruitful collection with 4 watches, 2 of them a part of the core collection, as well as two limited models. If we start with the traditional core collection, we see a white and a black dial. If you have been an avid reader of this page, you will know that I am a sucker for white dials, especially when they are given an extra flavor with a slight pop of color. This one ticks all of those boxes. The white dial contrasted with black lettering and numerals is already stunning, but the cherry on top is the pop of orange in the seconds hand, lettering, and date indication. This combination leads to a stunning timepiece.

Now the black dial is far from a slacker and is very wearable, it has the inverse colorway of the white one while keeping the pop of orange, for me it is just slightly safer and boring, but that is far from a bad thing in this case. The 2 limited edition models have the same colorway as the core collection with the only difference being the case. The white one (which has already sold out ) is in the same stainless steel as the basic version but is coated with Cerakote in a desert sand colorway, sort of similar to the Ceramic color of the Mojave desert pieces from IWC. The black limited edition has a more standard black DLC coating and is still available to purchase from their website.

In terms of sizing, the watch comes in an extremely wearable 38.5 mm case and a full thickness of 12.4 mm, this is with the sapphire crystal included in the measurements. The movement is incredibly cool and comes at an insane price. The Terra scout has a LJP G100 automatic movement with a  Côte de Genève finish, 68 hours of power reserve with a custom date wheel, as well as being in-house adjusted to an accuracy of +- 8 seconds a day. All of this for just 750 euros for the base models and 840 euros for the limited editions.
