As regular readers of this website know, I have a bone to pick with Seiko. I enjoy the brand and its history, and I think they do a lot of great stuff, but the endless focus on special editions and limited editions truly bugs me. That being said, it does sometimes work. I made an article when they released the Seiko 5 sports x Pepsi models and praised them that these were pieces that deserved the Limited Edition moniker. The 5 sports line has sort of become this flagship line of collaboration, with more and more collaborations, special editions, and limited editions coming seemingly every few weeks or so.
The last one they released was a Pink Panther collaboration, which was cool but a bit bland for what it could be, seeing as it was just a pink dial variant of a current watch from them. Now they just made a new collaboration with a brand I had not heard of until I started writing this article. HUF is an international fashion brand that focuses on streetwear and skateboarding designs. These pieces are made to last and designed to give the wearer a beautiful sense of self-expression.
Seiko and HUF have teamed up to make this sonar-inspired Seiko 5 model within the field series. The dial is a transparent green color, allowing the wearer to see the day and date wheels through the dial. The outer rim is black with numerals from 0 to 60, and a black middle part of the dial to give it better symmetry. Now the watch has the same problem as 99% of Seiko limited editions have, and that is that it is very available for a limited edition. Seeing as it has 7000 units being made.
I actually think that this design is very cool. I more often than not am not a fan of the transparent dial schtick that Seiko works with, but I feel the color and the way it fits the rest of the watch is perfect here. The watch uses the standard in-house Seiko 4R36 and a Hardlex Crystal. The watch comes in at just 40 mm and costs only 410 USD, so if you are in the market for an affordable piece to wear this summer, then this should definitely be on your list.

Now I won’t keep this any longer. I do recommend taking a look at this watch for yourself, as it is a decently cool addition to the 5 Sport collection. I hope you have enjoyed the article and will stick around for more. Until next time.
